Alyoum8th newspaper obtained an exclusive document confirming the arrest of a southern officer, who participated in social events organized by the local leadership of the Southern Transitional Council in Al-Mahra, by the police director who holds Saudi citizenship.
Security sources said that Saudi Arabia, which is looking for influence in Al-Mahra governorate, has taken action through Colonel Mufti Samouda against police officers affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council, where the director of Al-Mahra police, Mufti Samouda (a Saudi national), arrested First Lieutenant Ali Owaid Nasser, for allegedly participating in humanitarian and social activities organized by the Al-Mahra Transitional Council.
The arrest is the first for Samouda, who returned from Saudi Arabia after more than a decade of detention, on charges of smuggling weapons to the pro-Iranian Houthis.
Saudi Arabia arrested him last January, and charged him with smuggling weapons and cutting drones to the Houthis before releasing him and giving him wider authority to target the presence of the STC in Al-Mahra.
Samouda received a great reception upon his return, at a Saudi military base, before he began to take the first decision, which security sources described as representing a Saudi trend in targeting the STC.
